Lisbon - a charming city with 1000 viewpoints. With its tile-covered houses, the importance of Portuguese nautical history and an infinite amount of cute cafés to put your feet up, the so-called "city of light" is the perfect place for a city trip. But on this tour, we add a cherry on top: let your local guide Lina show you the gorgeous countryside around Lisbon, with its romantic palaces and stunning coastline. We pack our bags for one night to visit Sintra, where we'll hike to golden beaches, look out to sea from the most Western point in Europe and also visit the most Western vineyard. This is no conventional trip to Lisbon - this is something really special, designed for 30-45 year-olds!

Tour of central Lisbon
Enjoy beautiful viewpoints
Charming alleys of Alfama
Rooftop dinner with locals
Red tile roofs offer you a first hello from the plane: Welcome to Lisbon! Outside the hotel, in the afternoon sun, meet your fellow travelers and your tour guide Lina, who will show you the highlights of her home country over the next few days. Today you'll explore the center of Lisbon on foot. Lina takes you high up to several fantastic viewpoints, each of which has its own very special view - of the Sao Jorge Castle, the famous Lisbon bridge, the Tagus River. Then stroll the charismatic streets of Alfama (our favorite neighborhood!) and discover street art in the oldest part of Lisbon. In between, freshen up over a small glass of something special in a local delicatessen shop - this is the life!
As evening comes, you knock on the door at Lina's friends' house. They invite you in to enjoy a traditional homemade dinner together on their roof terrace. Chat with your hosts and enjoy Portuguese hospitality with a view of the sparkling city.

Explore vibrant Bairro Alto
Artist studios in LxFactory
Drinks with a view
Today Lina wants to show you the trendy side of Lisbon. Start in the colorful alleys of Bairro Alto (keep an eye out for nice bars to visit in the evening!). We love the pretty patterned tiles found on many houses in Lisbon! On your stroll, visit Instagram favorites Elevador da Bica (a cute tram) and Elevador de Santa Justa (a big elevator in the middle of the city). At the highest point of Santa Justa take a breather while enjoying the dramatic city backdrop. Strengthen yourself with a traditional cod cake snack (pastel de bacalao) before visiting the famous Praça do Comércio - the main square in Lisbon, which was once the entrance gate to the city. From here you hop on the tram to the popular LxFactory.
Colorful street art covers the former port warehouses and administration buildings now known as LxFactory. The complex is now home to a kaleidoscope of small shops and artist studios of all kinds. Have a look around, before enjoying a drink together in a hip rooftop bar with a gorgeous view of two Lisbon landmarks: the red Tagus Bridge and the white Christo statue. Afterwards, you have free time to stroll through the studios and shops, or if you prefer, try local craft beer and browse through music records in the charismatic Ler Devagar library (optional).

Day 3 • 17 Sep 2021 • What a Coastline!
Europe's most western point
Stunning coastal views
Enjoy golden beaches
Wine tasting at vineyard
After a relaxed start to the day, take the train to the neighboring town of Sintra, where Lina is waiting for you at the station. You're off to the breathtaking coast!
First you head to the westernmost point of Europe, the Cabo da Roca with its picturesque lighthouse. Enjoy the view of the big blue ocean - and daydream about stormy ocean crossings to the Americas.
Sintra is known for its golden sandy beaches, and Lina then shows you two of the most beautiful ones on a two-hour hike. Being similarly secluded, Ursa Beach with its big jagged rocks may remind you of the movie The Beach on arrival. Take some time out to hop into the water, enjoy the sun and a packed lunch. Later, continue your hike, climbing up to a breathtaking viewpoint over the turquoise water. At the end of the walk, Praia da Adraga beach awaits, with a photogenic rock with a large hole in it (very popular to do yoga poses in front of!).
From there you drive into the country, to the idyllic family run Casal Santa Maria vineyard. Time to taste some of their wines - one of which was chosen as the best rosé in Portugal in 2018. Take in the view of the grape vines and the distant Atlantic, while chatting with your fellow travelers and nibbling on some fresh local tapas. Is there a more relaxing way to end a vacation day?

Day 4 • 18 Sep 2021 • Perfect Palace & Sunset Sailing
Visit Pena Palace
Taste local pastries
Sunset sailing in Lisbon
Start the day with a hike through the lush forests of Sintra to one of the most popular sights in Portugal, the colorful Pena Palace. It was built in the era of romanticism and painted red and yellow from the start, but the colors faded with time. In the 1990s the palace was renovated and freshly painted. While the bright new coat of paint horrified many local residents, its what makes the building so enigmatic and popular today.
Later, Lina shows you the historic city center of Sintra, which is registered as UNESCO cultural heritage. Stroll past romantic villas, and flower-filled gardens, before sitting down to sample some fresh local pastries. Lina gives you tips on what you can do in your free time - you might stop by the Quinta da Regaleira or Monserrate Palace, for example - and then she bids you goodbye.
In the evening, regroup with your fellow travelers in Lisbon, on the banks for the Tagus River. Hop on a sailboat, from which you can enjoy the last sunset of your trip. Admire the Christo statue, modeled after the one in Rio, and the iconic red bridge of Lisbon as the city lights up and you sail back to land.

Day 5 • 19 Sep 2021 • Final day in Lisbon
Visit historical Belém
End of trip
Today you are free to do what you like in Lisbon - but we strongly recommend hopping on the tram (ticket price included) and going to the neighbourhood of Belém - especially if you're a Game of Thrones fan! Even if neither John Snow nor Daenerys can be found, the architecture of the 500 year-old Belém Tower is more than enough to enchant visitors from all over the world. The fortress was strategically placed where the Tagus River flows into the Atlantic Ocean, which is why it was particularly important in the times of Portuguese navigation. Stroll through Belém's gardens and visit the architecturally impressive Monastery of Saint Jerôme, another landmark of the city of Lisbon.
Then you still have time to treat yourself to a few last pastel de nata tarts before you head home or continue your journey. We recommend: take the train to Porto to spend a few days in the charming homeland of port wine.
See you soon on the next trip!
Meals included: Breakfast
Before the trip
I'd like to arrive a day/some days earlier, or add a few days to the end of my trip. Can I?
Absolutely - we encourage that! We can help you extend your stay at the groups' hotels, and give you tips for things to do regionally if you drop us a message. For some trips, there are also pre-planned excursions - check your trip itinerary.
Can you help with booking flights?
We've found our travelers prefer to book their flights themselves as they can choose their local departure airport, and decide themselves whether to prioritise by cost of the flight, duration, airline etc. We're vry happy to give you tips on how to get the best flight deals - just drop us a note!
What vaccinations are recommended or required for my trip?
As a tour operator, we are not allowed to give specific vaccination recommendations for liability reasons. We strongly recommend that you consult your local doctor or, even better, a qualified doctor specialized in tropical diseases in good time before your trip. Here are some relevant links for citizens of several countries: UK: Gov.uk, USA: U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Germany: Auswärtiges Amt.
When can I book my international flights?
As soon as we have confirmed that the minimum number of participants for your trip has been reached and the trip is therefore guaranteed to take place, you can book your flights. The trip will be confirmed or cancelled at least 45 days before departure. We will be happy to give you tips on booking flights! By the way: it is in our interest to fill the trips as soon as possible, so we do our best to confirm them as soon as possible.
When is a trip guaranteed to take place?
A trip is guaranteed to take place when the minimum number of participants has been reached. If you have already booked before the minimum number of participants has been reached, we will let you know, so you can book your flights. We will confirm or cancel the trip no later than 45 days before the scheduled departure date. If a trip has to be cancelled unexpectedly, you will of course receive a 100% refund of your deposit or any other payments made.
What is the early bird discount?
The early bird discount is a thank you for people who book an Indico-Travels trip before the minimum number of participants has been reached. You can't book your flights right away because the trip is not (yet!) confirmed. Once the trip is confirmed, you can proceed to book your flights.
How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
It's super easy! Follow the signs to the metro station, buy a ticket at the self-service machine or counter and hop on the metro. This is a popular route amongst tourists, it's safe and you'll find plenty of people who speak English if you have questions. The hotel is a short walk from the metro station - we'll send you more specific details a few weeks before the trip.
I'm under 30 or over 45 - can I still join the trip?
Our trips are made specifically for people from 30-45, as we know there are many other travel brands out there catering to other age groups. If you're under 30 or over 45, do check out our sister brands Galapatours and Polartours, who offer boat excusions. If you speak German or French, we also have group travel sister brands that offer trips for all ages. Find our about them here: https://www.venturatravel.org/brands
I've never traveled with a tour group before - how do I know this is for me?
Many of our clients have never traveled with a travel group before - we hadn't either! We've specifically developed our trips with solo travelers in mind, meaning we give you some spare time and space in which you can do our own thing, but you can also buddy up with people in the group if you like. Traveling with a tour group has great benefits: you get access to locations and communities you wouldn't get on your own, you travel with a local expert and everything is organised for you on the ground, so you can just relax into enjoying your new experiences. Plus, you get to meet a bunch of new people your age who are up for shared adventures!
What happens if a vaccination against Corona becomes mandatory for my trip?
If you do not want to or aren't able to get fully vaccinated before your trip, please check before booking whether a certificate of vaccination is currently mandatory in your destination. Feel free to ask us - or your destination's local embassy in your country will be able to confirm, too! If you already booked a trip with us and the entry requirements change, we will get in touch with you and explain the new situation. If, for example, a vaccination against Corona becomes mandatory due to new airline regulations or to enter a destination and you are not able to get vaccinated in time, there are different options which we will offer you, such as rescheduling or canceling your trip.
