Food tour of Fez

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Transportation: By Foot (4:00h)

After a long breakfast you start your day with a deep dive into the myriad of aromas and scents that Fez’ many food markets have to offer. Your guide will take you through the maze of the ancient medina’s countless narrow alleys. During your half-day tour, sample a myriad of different delicacies that are typical to Moroccan cuisine.

Once you’ve enjoyed some food, it’s time to dive into the rich history and culture of the artistic capital of Morocco: see artisan’s shops, visit the famous leather tanneries, copper smiths and dyers who still practice their profession the same way their ancestors did in medieval times.

Stay at a desert camp

Stargazing in the Sahara

See wild Berber monkeys

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Transportation: Private Bus (7:00h)

Today, you embark on your journey to the world's largest desert: the Sahara!

Out of the window, you'll spot the tents of nomadic shepherds and their herds of goats and sheep. You get to snap amazing pictures at the magnificent gorges of Ziz Valley, see towering palm trees as your drive past oasis and start to feel a real desert vibe, when you spot the little mud villages along the road. Our destination is Merzouga - a little desert village next to the breathtaking „sea of sand“, Erg Chebbi.

Here we change to a special mode of transportation: let's take a sunset camel ride through the majestic sand dunes of the Sahara! When you finally arrive at your desert camp, you are greeted by a meal by the campfire, accompanied by live music from the local Berber tribes. As you look up, you see a starry night sky like you’ve never seen before.

Todra Gorge

Meals included: Breakfast

Transportation: Private Bus (5:00h), Offroad vehicle (1:00h)

Wake up early to catch the magnificent sunrise from the top of the dunes. After this magical moment and taking breakfast, we get on the jeeps and head to the village of Khamlyia, where we'll find out more about life in rural Morocco. We're invited to drink traditional mint tea while we listen to the local youth playing Gnawa African music.

We continue towards the majestic High Atlas Mountains. As the mountains get taller and the valleys deeper, we reach the famous Todra gorge - a deep cut in the rocky, yellow mountains, with vertical walls over 400 meters high. We stop in several different spots, so that you get to discover the Todra gorge from different perspectives, including a short walk in an almost 16km long oasis.

Next, you head to the small desert town of Ouarzazate. It might not look like it - but this is the Hollywood of Morocco! Series like Game of Thrones and movies like „The Mummy“ were shot here. After today’s long drive, you’re happy to fall asleep right away, otherwise you might turn into a mummy yourself!

UNESCO site Ait Ben Haddou

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Transportation: Private Bus (4:00h)

After breakfast at the hotel, we take you to the residence Kasbah Taourirt. You will be amazed by its decor! And as today it's all about movies, you will visit the film studio Atlas Sudios. Over 200 movies have been filmed here and it is the world's largest film studio by area.

Now it’s time to leave Ouarzazate and continue to one of the architectural highlights of the trip. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Ben Haddou might look familiar to you. The magnificent Kasbah, a mud-built fortress dating back to the 11th century, was an important stop along the trans-saharan caravan route to Marrakesh. Because of its unique appearance, it featured in many movie and TV productions, such as „Gladiator“, „Game of Thrones“ and many, many more. We enjoy lunch on a terrace facing the ancient Kasbah.

Later, we arrive in the „Red City“, Marrakesh! Your hotel is located in a lively and trendy part of town that offers many bars and restaurants that you can explore with your fellow travellers.

The trip was a once in a lifetime experience. We got to see many amazing views and try lots of local food. The highlight was to stay in the desert. We got to enjoy Berber music, multiple falling stars and a good dinner. I felt safe and taken care of by the tour guide and driver.

Morocco has a lot to offer, in Fez you feel like transported to a completely different world which is super interesting. The highlight on this trip for me personally was the overnight stay in the desert camp. Everything about it was breathtaking, from camel ride to camp with super cute camels (who also liked to be petted, at least mine 😊) over seeing the Milky Way with naked eye at night to waking up with breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara, I loved everything about it. (I recommend to do a quad tour)?

It's generally advised to dress modestly in Morocco. Especially women should always cover their shoulders and never expose their knees. You don't need to cover your head, though. Light, loosely fitting clothes are not only appropriate, but also the most comfy choice in Morocco's dry heat.
