Take amazing photos in the Himalayas and meet the local Sherpas!

Are you into photography? Are you interested in learning more about the famous Sherpa people of the Himalayas while honing your skills as a photographer against the backdrop of one of the most majestic landscapes on Earth? Then book our optional extension and go on an unforgettable hike through the mountains of Nepal. You will get to meet the local Sherpas and listen to their stories about mountaineering and life on top of the world. You're invited to take portrait photos of them and their family. You will visit a local monastery, hike amazing trails and take awesome photos along the way! Note that the internal flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are not included. They cost around USD200 one way per person (though prices vary depending on the season). We'd be happy to help you book those flights if you book the extension.

Day 1 • Fly to the top of the world!

In the morning, you board a small plane that will take you through a spectacular mountainous landscape to Lukla. The tiny, inclined runway of this little mountain town is a sight in itself!

As you acclimatize to the altitude, you'll meet your local Sherpa guide. He will accompany you throughout the tour and show you his world. Together, you start your trek towards Phakding, where you will stay the night at a local tea house. Of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to take breathtaking photos along the way!

Day 2 • A day of glorious hiking

Today is all about hiking! It will take you about 6 hours to reach Namche Bazaar, hiking along the gorgeous Himalayas, so make sure to have your camera charged. Namche Bazaar is a small town with only around 1600 inhabitants, but it's a stopping point for many hikers as it's the gateway to the higher Himalayas. You may meet some interesting characters about the town! STrike up a conversation with them, maybe you'll find more people who you'd like to take a portrait picture of. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 3 • A visit to the local monastery

Today, you go on a short hike to the local goma, a traditional monastery, to learn about the religious customs of the region. On your way back, you meet a local Sherpa family who will welcome you with snacks and tea. You get to learn about their lives in the mountains, get to know family life from their perspective and of course take photos of them and their home!

You spend the night back at the tea house in Namche Bazaar.

Day 4 • Meet a local Sherpa climber

After your time in Namche Bazaar, it's time to head out on the trail once again and hike back to Lukla. Since you will pass the various viewpoints of the trail at a different time of day compared to your way up, you will get to take photos with a drastically different lighting and atmosphere!

Back in Lukla, you meet up with a local Sherpa climber for drinks at a bar. The stories that he will tell you are on of a kind! There are no better mountaineers than the Sherpa, as even their genetics adapted to life at such high altitudes! Of course, you will also be able to take pictures with him and capture a face that has seen climbing adventures that only a handful of people have experienced!

You will spend the night at the local tea house in Lukla.

Day 5 • Back to civilization

Namche Mountains

Today, your photographer's hike comes to a close. You catch an early morning flight and experience a spectacular take-off into the majestic valley below.

With many amazing photos on your sd card, you continue your journey through the colorful country of Nepal. We wish you a happy trip and breathtaking results from your photographic excursion into the mountains!
